Making Waves Project began with a simple yet profound idea: to amplify real-life stories that create positive impact and give back to communities. Born from a desire to connect, inspire, and heal, Making Waves has grown into a platform, a community, and a movement that partners with brands and individuals to tell stories that spark meaningful change.

Our Roots: A Social Distancing Portrait Series

At the heart of Making Waves is photographer Robiee Ziegler, whose work has always centered around storytelling. When the pandemic disrupted the world in 2020, Robiee turned her lens toward capturing the resilience and humanity of her community through A Social Distancing Portrait Series.

Photographing individuals, couples, and families from at least 10 feet away, with masks and gloves, Robiee documented life in quarantine—a time defined by uncertainty and separation. Each portrait was a quick encounter but left an enduring impact, portraying strength, vulnerability, and the unbreakable human spirit.

The series quickly gained momentum, resonating far beyond Los Angeles. Families separated by distance found connection through these images, and people across the country saw their own stories reflected in the faces of others. What began as a simple idea became a testament to the power of storytelling to unite and inspire.

This chapter of Making Waves laid the foundation for its evolution into a broader platform, solidifying the belief that stories have the power to heal, connect, and drive meaningful impact.

Who We Are Today

Today, Making Waves is co-led by Robiee Ziegler and Katie Caro, who bring a shared passion for storytelling and a commitment to creating change. As an agency, we partner with brands to amplify real-life stories that matter, bridging the gap between purpose and action. Whether it’s through photography, video, events, or collaborations, Making Waves continues to build on its legacy of giving back and making a difference.
