Vishal’s Mission: How Good Karma LA is Supporting First Responders After the Wildfires

When wildfires tore through Los Angeles, chaos consumed the city. Communities were shaken, homes were lost, and entire neighborhoods faced devastation. But even in the midst of this destruction, first responders stood strong risking their lives to protect others. For Vishal, founder of Good Karma LA and a former firefighter, the path forward was clear: focus on the people on the frontlines.

Good Karma LA is a nonprofit dedicated to serving Los Angeles’ most vulnerable residents. Over the past 4.5 years, the organization has made a profound impact in the Skid Row community, providing over 130,000 hot meals and 130,000 water bottles. Each month, they distribute meals, hydration packets, care kits, pet supplies, and essential items like socks, tents, blankets, and tarps to those in need.

This unwavering commitment to service is what inspired Good Karma LA’s wildfire relief efforts. As the fires spread, Vishal and his team shifted their focus to supporting first responders—the firefighters, medics, and emergency personnel working around the clock to protect the city.

During the wildfire crisis, Good Karma LA organized supply deliveries to firehouses and emergency staging areas to meet the needs of those working in extreme conditions. With Vishal’s firsthand experience as a former firefighter, he understood exactly what these crews needed to stay energized and focused.

“We wanted to show our appreciation for the sacrifices they were making,” Vishal said. “These are the people putting their lives on the line for all of us, and it’s our job to make sure they’re cared for.”

Good Karma LA delivered hot meals, hydration packets, snacks, and care kits to fire crews. But the support didn’t stop there. To boost morale, they included handwritten thank-you notes from local children, reminding the first responders of the impact their work has on countless lives.

The wildfire relief efforts quickly became a collaborative movement. Inspired by Vishal’s leadership, local businesses, restaurants, and volunteers stepped up to donate food, water, and supplies. Vishal described this outpouring of generosity as a powerful reminder of what happens when a community comes together.

“It’s incredible to see how much people care,” he said. “This is what Good Karma LA is about bringing people together to make a difference.”

At the heart of Good Karma LA is Vishal, whose dedication to service is both inspiring and deeply personal. Growing up in Los Angeles, he developed a profound belief in the power of community. His background as a former firefighter shaped this perspective, giving him a deep understanding of the challenges first responders face.

“I know what it’s like to be out there, giving everything you have to protect others,” he said. “That’s why this work is so important to me it’s personal.”

Outside of his work with Good Karma LA, Vishal is a connector. He values shared meals, meaningful conversations, and moments that spark change. His vision for the organization goes beyond providing resources—it’s about inspiring compassion, hope, and action across the city.

“Everyone has the ability to make an impact,” Vishal said. “It’s not about doing everything; it’s about doing what you can with love and intention.”

As Los Angeles begins to recover, Good Karma LA continues to focus on supporting first responders. Their efforts ensure these heroes have the resources they need to keep protecting and serving the city.

For Vishal, this wildfire season has been a powerful reminder of the importance of showing up for others. “This experience reinforced the value of compassion,” he said. “Whether it’s first responders, Skid Row residents, or anyone in need, we’re here to help.”

Through Vishal’s leadership and the dedication of Good Karma LA, the organization is proving that small acts of kindness can create ripples of change. Their story is a testament to the idea that, even in the face of great challenges, community and compassion can spark hope.

The Making Waves Project is proud to share Vishal’s story and celebrate the work of Good Karma LA. If you feel inspired, consider supporting their mission by volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word. Together, we can create waves of kindness and honor the people who make a difference every day.
