Our first feature for the series showcases the resilient soul of @kamrylorin. Kamry, who was working as a wardrobe stylist in Seattle, moved to LA, just a little over a year ago to pursue a career in modeling. (If you’re an LA transplant, you can attest that the move to this exciting city, can be anything but easy.) Kamry found roller skating during this transitional period in her life and roller skating has since allowed her to find the joy and confidence in herself and her abilities despite this ever-changing world. Kamry credits roller skating with teaching her how to fall and get back up, not just on skates, but in the real world as well.

Searching for a sense of community, roller skating has allowed, Kamry to find exactly that here in LA. Now that this roller skating queen has found her bearings, she has been doing her part to support others in need during this time. “As the BLM movement began to unfold, I was left feeling helpless,” says Kamry, “Going to the protests and attending Black Lives Matter meetings, still did not feel like enough.” Kamry began offering skate classes online in an effort to motivate and empower others. She has amplified the impact of these sessions even further by donating proceeds to the Black Lives Matter movement.

After receiving an overwhelming demand, Kamry’s skate lessons are still available for you to sign up for online. If we’ve learned anything over the last two months, it’s that now is not the time to think, now is the time to do. Follow @kamrylorin for weekly roller skating content that will inspire you to get moving, get on your skates and do your part to keep up this momentum.

“I’m such an empathetic person and have always been the type of person to put myself in other’s shoes. With the BLM movement, it’s easy to say it doesn’t involve you if you’re not a POC or black but we are all human at the end of the day and are put on this earth for a reason and it’s to help others to live their best lives, to help them find their talents and find the joy to live the best life that they can. The last few weeks have been hard and it’s easy to fester on what’s been happening. But hate is not going to change the world, love and joy will. I hope others will see my videos and that the videos will bring hope and joy during this time. I want viewers to not just see a black person, but see a human.” - Kamry James : @kamrylorin
